Pierre Paulin’s first collaboration with Artifort, the Mushroom® Chair, marks a significant milestone in furniture design. It was the first design to fully conceal its structural elements within a single, sculptural form. A tubular metal frame, shaped into interconnected circular forms, is padded with foam and covered in stretch fabric, an innovative approach at the time. Art that is always comfortable.
Paulin initially experimented with swimsuit fabrics before Artifort’s Harry Wagemans sourced a durable, elastic upholstery material. According to Paulin, the Mushroom® Chair was “economically, mechanically, financially…the best seat I have created.”.
